“I initiated this series with a nostalgic notion of vintage photographic portraits and it has evolved over the past year. Most of the pieces begin by sharing the common denominator of a sepia toned abstract form. Using a mix of synthetic materials such as Yupo paper, Sharpie pens and acrylic inks, I embrace and push the limitations of non-traditional painting materials. I am very drawn to Dunda’s precise brushwork and color choices. I find an aspect of beautiful solitude in his subject matter. Especially in the playful isolation of his painting entitled Landscape. Dunda’s work, though different, does remind me of Lora Fosberg paintings. Pictorially, I see a similarity in palette and line quality between the two painters’ work and a smart, somewhat wry humor.
